Description

When Reel and Robie arrive, they find a town with a stagnant economy, an understaffed police force, and camps recruiting people with dangerous ideologies.

C. for nine years, David Baldacci found fame with the publication of his first novel, “Absolute Power” in 1996—a story that would gain further prominence as a Clint Eastwood movie. Together, they are informed that their handler, Roger ‘Blueman’ Walton, has gone missing during his annual vacation to Colorado. I enjoy Baldacci and his series, but can only hope that if he is losing his passion for these two, that he will tie things off and turn his gaze onto his well-developed newer series, which also packs a punch. El libro en sí no está mal, en la línea de los anteriores, aunque con un "peliculerismo" general que no le ayuda demasiado. Will and Jess had a ‘moment’ at the end of the last book but when this book opens they’ve not seen each other for six months and Will’s at a bit of a loss as to why. As they delve deeper into the mystery behind Blue Man’s disappearance, they find themselves facing an adversary who has a home and firepower advantage. David Baldacci is back with another in his hard-hitting Will Robie series, which matches an impactful thriller with some social commentary.

There’s a sense early in the book that this might be the final outing for Will and Jess and I wondered if that was going to be the case, which I guess had me reading while on edge a little more than usual. The cliché-ridden dialogue is not improved by the narration, particularly that of Orlagh Cassidy reading (mainly) the role of super-assassin Jessica Reel.

But still a solid mystery action thriller by the always dependable David Baldacci from his incomparable Will Robie series. And when Robie and Reel find themselves up against an adversary with superior firepower and a home-court advantage, they'll be lucky if they make it out alive, with or without Blue Man. He’s met there by his sometimes partner, Jessica Reel, who has just come off her own mission that ended quite poorly.

As soon as the teen in the first instalment left the series the characters lose their suspension of disbelief around how they speak to one another. Their boss, Blue Moon is missing since a few days and they are given the assignment to find him, hopefully - alive. They retrace him to his hometown where they discover he grew up before leaving for an Ivy League school and bigger and better things. Y aunque el autor podría seguir escribiendo sobre estos personajes está bien que deje de estirar el chicle, hay que saber cuándo parar. The fifth book in the Will Robie Series by David Baldacci proved to be the weakest so far, and that's really quite a shame given the previous books.

Needless to say, as they bump up against infestations of skinheads, neo-Nazis and other undesirables in this godforsaken territory, there's a good probability that's exactly how it will end.In fact, I was a latecomer to the series but that book took Will (and his erstwhile partner Jessica Reel) out of his usual spy / assassin / government agent role and had a more personal twist.
