About this deal

If you are more deeply into fashion and happen to love McQueen like I do, this is an incredible glossary and reference book to aid in your own projects. He was an incredible tailor and his garments always have an exquisite and distinctive silhouette, usually with the waist emphasised. From the lenticular cover by Gary James McQueen ('Lenticular printing is a technology in which a lenticular lens is used to produce images with an illusion of depth, or the ability to change or move as the image is viewed from different angles') to the layout or deign of the book itself to the extraordinary photography (by Sølve Sundsbø) this book is an art piece by itself.

It is a captivating tribute to the designer's most radical and beautiful creations, from his impeccable tailoring at Savile Row through to his most avant-garde collections. McQueen’s brilliance is celebrated in this sumptuous tome…The hologram cover makes it a collector’s item. Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty celebrates the astounding creativity and originality of a designer who relentlessly questioned and confronted the requisites of fashion. Can we first off just praise the cover I mean unique, which is a way of describing the designer as well. But if that still isn't enough time for you to get down to see it, the next best thing to a New York City jaunt is the definitive monograph, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. This art book also focuses on the highly sophisticated narrative structures found in McQueen’s collections and in his astonishing and extravagant runway presentations, which could well have been the most avant-garde installation and performance art. A fitting image for a book that attempts to provide a glimpse into the mind of the reclusive late designer .

This time around, I took the time to read the prologue, which is key if you're at all interested in learning about the myriad historical, nature, and art world references—all interests of McQueen's—that went into these collections. What really struck me about his art (moving pieces on humans) was the pain he felt, transformed by sharp relief into beauty.Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. I wish there were multiple volumes showing more of his work and revealing more of his personal life. Back when the world was normal, I would probably have been fine with this book taking up permanent residence on my coffee table, but I'm finding that McQueen's tortured and dark outlook on the world is more relevant than ever. The short life of fashion designer Alexander McQueen (1969-2010) ended with a suicide, but not even that tragic act should blur our sense of his accomplishments. In place of the hugely evocative and wildly dramatic wide-angled images for which McQueen's presentations were well-known, are Solve Sundsbo's quieter and mournfully lovely photographs of his work, often seen up close, and that elevate McQueen from showman to bona fide artist .

It is no mean feat to express movement and life on static mannequins, but [photographer Solve] Sundsbo makes the designers creations float, dance, and strut. The book closes with an encyclopaedic survey of all of McQueen's London collections, from his 1992 MA graduate collection to his final collection, posthumously presented in March 2010. This is a fine tribute to a fashion designer and conceptual artist who died far too young but whose contributions to contemporary fashion and art will live on. His designs are beautifully interpreted by London-based Norwegian fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo. It is a captivating tribute to the designers most radical and beautiful creations, from his impeccable tailoring at Savile Row through to his most avant-garde collections.
