About this deal

Once the batteries had recharged, which took slightly more than nine hours for the three batteries, about 3 hours each, it was time to test the use of the goggles. Again with the spotter at the ready, I used the Motion Controller to navigate through a gate and through the garden; the live view feed and the over-enthusiastic spotter guided me through the environment without issue. This is like playing a VR computer game rather than being outside in the real world.

What’s more, since it was a smart battery, the remaining charge is displayed in percentages, while typical FPV drones require the pilot to monitor the voltage so they don’t over drain the battery. Obviously, this fancy new tech comes with its own set of limitations. For starters, that battery is about as proprietary as it gets. Yes, you get the convenience of charging it with USB-C, but you’re probably only going to be able to buy new ones from DJI themselves. The transmission delay is as low as approximately 30 milliseconds with O3+. But at the same time, the transmission distance is pretty long – up to 10 kilometers. The other technologies that go into ensuring a reliable feed from the FPV drone include auto-switching dual frequencies, a high bitrate of 50 Mbps, and state-of-the-art anti-interference methods. 6. DJI Motion Controller reads hand motions for maneuvering Manual (M) Mode (only with the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2): Fly in M mode for complete, limitless control and the full FPV immersive flight experience. Experienced users can customize parameters and enjoy flight and footage unlike anything else. After that crash though, we decided to hand the drone off to someone a little more experienced with FPV drones just to get a gauge on how this compares to a regular FPV drone. When using the standard DJI Motion Controller in one of the combos, you can perform motion control on the aircraft. That is, you can turn your wrist to control the direction of flight, and the aircraft will fly wherever you point to. You can also press the accelerator to control the speed of flying forward, or release the accelerator to let the aircraft hover in place. The control is intuitive and easy-to-learn. To remain oriented during flight while wearing goggles, DJI Avata and DJI Goggles 2 display the Home Point where the drone took off from. This augmented reality (AR) perspective gives an extra sense of orientation to help the pilot locate the immediate environment in seconds. DJI Avata FPV drone is now available to buy. But, if you do want to graduate from the Motion Controller to something more serious, you can do that with the Avata too. It’ll pair right up with a regular DJI FPV controller 2 and give you access to full manual mode so you can do all those complicated maneuvers. And yet, it’ll still have some of the useful features to keep you safe like the ability to bail out of a flip by hitting the pause button, or have your home point displayed in your goggle’s HUD. DJI Avata and DJI Goggles 2 connect using DJI O3+ transmission. It’s the most powerful and reliable technology yet by DJI for precise control, ultra-low latency, and detailed video at 1080p/100fps with H.265 decoding.

You could, of course, do these shots with the Mavic Mini 3 Pro or a Ronin RS3 Pro, but where is the fun? Also announced today, DJI Goggles 2 is a next-generation video headset that offers a smaller, lighter, and more comfortable fit, with a crystal-clear FPV image comparable to those of other DJI drones. The AVATA brings much of the enjoyment I used to get flying FPVs but at a slower and more stable pace. Roll to the left or right, and the AVATA rolls to the left or right; it doesn’t do an FPV and flip in a full 360º in every direction, which is frankly a relief. Now, maybe I was being a little bit of an idiot flying in a dense city area, but having reviewed the footage, I don’t think it’s entirely a pilot skill issue. Halfway pulling up, I basically lost all control of the drone and couldn’t redirect it as it was hurtling towards the building. But that happens with drones sometimes. What I was most impressed with was the fact that the drone survived the more than two storey crash nearly unscathed.Tested in an outdoor open environment without interference. The video transmission bitrate varies with operating environments.

First of all, the AVATA battery is popped in and plugged in. Next, the Goggles V2 is plugged into an external power source, and my iPhone contains the DJI Fly App which is again plugged into the Goggles V2. Then there’s the D-Cinelike color mode, which offers a wealth of color information for tuning the color mix of your video in post. The goggles come with clear Micro-OLED screens with adjustable diopters, so people who normally wear glasses do not need to use them with the headset. When used with the DJI Motion Controller (detailed below), you can control the aircraft and the gimbal camera freely. Meanwhile, an intuitive touch panel on the side of the goggles means that you can control its settings with only one hand.

Images are captured in JPEG format for stills and MP4 for video, although a plus point here is that you can capture in standard or D-Cinelike colour profiles. What is a step up is the ability to capture video at 150MB/s, which is high for this type of camera.

Everything about the drone is tight and compact. When it comes to the small camera it is squeezed in at the front with the ability to tilt up and down. The camera’s position is fixed; there’s no mechanical image stabilisation. The DJI Avata price in Nepal is Rs. 2,28,000 for the Pro-View Combo. The DJI Avata Fly More Kit costs Rs. 45,000. It is available at Oliz Store. Inserting the card into the Goggles V2 is easy; push it in, and you’re done. Inserting the card into the DJI AVATA is fiddly as the slot is inside the drone prop guard. This means you must pull aside the rubber port protector, move the prop out of the way, and wiggle in the card without the rubber flap and prop getting in the way. In addition, DJI Avata is equipped with both an Infrared Sensing System and a two-camera Downward Vision System. They help the aircraft maintain its current position, hover more precisely, fly indoors or in other environments where satellite navigation is unavailable, and identify areas such as bodies of water that are not suitable for landing. 9. The drone supports multiple flight modes for different skill levels
