One issue we experienced on our first set of rides was that the child bike leaned to the side almost the entire time we were riding. It was a drastic enough lean that our kid bike testers started complaining after the initial 30 seconds of “wow” factor wore out. If we couldn’t fix the issue, we knew we would never really use the Trail Gator. If you change your mind on that... with Brucey's advice I redesigned the seat post mount for the trailer trike used by my daughter and grandchildren. It now works very well.

Attaching the Hitch to the Adult BikeThe Trail-Gator is provided with an adjustable receiver, which mounts to the front of the child's bike, that allows you to lift the child's front wheel a recommended 3"-5" off the ground. This keeps the child at a safe and comfortable angle while riding. The Trail-Gator is designed to work with 12"-20" bikes with riders weighing 70 pounds or less. Due to the receiver angle on the tow bar, bike frames larger than 20” will not be able to be set up to the proper wheel height clearance. Child riders more than 70 pounds also make it more difficult to tow.

The Trail Gator is a unique bike towing solution to several common problem parents often have when biking with their kids. Don't want to use it anymore in any event. Completely encasing the foot, ankle and lower leg up to the knee, these gaiters are ideally adapted for crossing streams, bogs and all other sorts of wet, muddy ground. They’re made from ultra-rugged 1,000-denier nylon bonded to a Gore-Tex membrane. This is stitched onto an all-round rubber rand, which is designed to stretch over the sole of a hiking boot. The front closure is a real belt-and-braces affair, consisting of a full-length zip with a Velcro storm flap overlay. The wobble is probably due to the telescoping arm design and the connection to the child bike, both of which are unique to the Trail Gator and introduce some additional instability.
Tow bar receiver fits child bikes with head tubes up to 45mm (1.77") wide in diameter and expans for bolting distance of 105mm (4.1") for top and bottom U-bolt spacing.

The tow bar has a vertical and a horizontal pivot located at the adult bike seat post area, which allow for side to side and up and down movement only, and keeps the child bike in an up right position when being towed. The tow bar attachment to the child bike receiver is a rigid mount therefore restricting movement at that end. The Trail Gator does not affect the child bike’s rear brakes in any way, so the child rider can brake unexpectedly while riding. As the adult rider, you’ll feel the “drag” when this occurs, but it’s not a drastic jolt that would cause you to lose your balance. No Training Wheels Allowed! We’ve used a lot of tag along bikes and bike towing options. Like most things in life, their quality and ease-of-use are directly related to their price point. The Trail Gator is a bit wobbly, similar to the “wobble factor” we also found with the popular WeeRide Co-Pilot. But it’s also the most affordable towing option on the market. We reached out to Trail Gator for help, and they provided several different potential solves. Based on their response, it seems that many others before me have probably had this issue. After about another two hours of finagling and trying every possible solve they provided, we finally resolved the issue.
