What the AZ910UKT also features is the fully sealed filtration system that Shark is renowned for. What this means is that dust and allergens are pushed through the filter, and all the air that comes out of the machine has been forced through it and the exhaust only – leading to clean air. If you have allergies and a pet owner, like all Shark uprights its definitely a great model to go with, but this would be on the basis you live and a medium to larger sized home with stairs and a home thats mainly carpeted. The Lift-Away simply adds extra versatility so that the vacuum can also be used as a handheld, which is especially useful for multi-storey houses with large staircases – the Shark was tested in a house with a total of 10 rooms over two storeys. As such, the Shark more than exceeded expectation, removing everything from dog hair to sand (Alison lives near the beach) on pet bedding, hard floors and carpets.

Bin capacity: A larger bin capacity means that you can clean for longer but your vacuum may be heavier. As a rule of thumb, cordless vacuum cleaners have a smaller bin capacity than corded models. Cylinder models generally have a larger capacity than upright vacuums, meaning you have to empty them less often. Handheld vacuums only have a small bin capacity, but this type of vac is not meant for big cleaning jobs. There are clear instructions on how to do this, which meant that our tester, Alison, had the vacuum set up and ready to go within two minutes. Noisier than cylinder vacuum cleaners, like the Hoover Telios Extra TX50PET, and robot vacuums, like the iRobot Roomba 966, the Shark comes in at whopping 80 decibels. What we like The accompanying dusting brush, crevice tool and upholstery brush mean you can complete any cleaning task you can possibly think of, whether that's floors, skirting boards, rugs, upholstery, ceilings, light fittings or curtain poles. You name it, you can reach it and clean it, which makes the Shark much more versatile than a lot of upright vacuum cleaners we tested. In terms of dust capacity, the AZ910UKT has a meagre 0.84 litre maximum. For context, the Hoover Breeze Evo has a whopping 3 litre dirt canister. There are even cordless vacuums with similar capacities to the AZ910UKT, so be prepared to empty it often. I would also suggest if you don’t have anyone in the home with potential long stair hairs, then you could likely live without the Anti-hair wrap brush bar, I would suggest looking towards the NV681 which has the same spec and scored pretty much the same in all our tests, in fact, a little better on the carpet and at a lower price to boot. The pet tool is what really blew me away, and I don’t mean that as a compliment. The volume spiked to 88dB. It’s massively loud in a way that almost pierces your brain, though you do find yourself getting used to it after a while, and the plus side is that you don’t need to use the tool too much. We haven’t tried this so cannot be 100% how accurate this advise is, but it came straight from the Sharks mouth so to speak Type of vacuum cleaner: Cordless | Weight: 2.16kg | Capacity: 0.7 litres | Runtime: 60 mins | Charge time: 30 mins | Dimensions:114 x 27 x 17cm | Warranty: 5 years (2 years for battery) What we like The weight reflects this solid construction, though, as it’s on the heavy side at 6.77kg. This isn’t much more than the 6.5kg of the Shark NZ801UKT, but it’s worth taking into consideration, particularly for elderly people or anyone looking for a lightweight vacuum. As seems to be the norm with upright Shark vacuum cleaners, this model has an 8m cord. It’s not the best length out there, but it is also far from the worst. The Shark DuoClean Powered Lift-Away Anti-Hair Wrap Plus is excellent at removing pet hair from upholstery and pet bedding.

Remaining consistent with the Shark line, the AZ910UKT uses the standard filtration system that we see across the upright models. The HEPA filter is located near the motor, helping to muffle the sound. This needs to be washed annually, but we prefer every six months.The brush itself is the same as normal, which works excellently on carpets to pull up hair and dirt that is embedded deep down. They are also easy to access in the unlikely situation you need to clean them. The soft brush roll can be taken out, which is good as it will need to be cleaned on a regular basis.

So, if you already have a vacuum with these features, there’s no reason to upgrade to the AZ910UKT. Shark vacuum cleaners have been catching our eye for the past couple of years, so it was time to take one for a test drive. Unfortunately, the cleaning radius is limited by the 8 metre power cord. It’s not the shortest we’ve seen, but it does require a fair amount of plug swapping when cleaning a large home.
