Format (3MF): Include texture, data type is mesh, saves as Scan, 3mf, recommended for lows storage needed and edit with Microsoft paint3d.

After I first learned about the 3D scanner and realized one of its important roles - converting real-life objects into 3D models - I had a question: How accurate is it? Like many people, once I learn about this technology, it is natural to start paying attention to what accuracy it can achieve because it certainly seems to be a simple and direct criterion to understand the quality of a scanner. Yet is this really the case? Here are all the facts about accuracy that you, as a person interested in 3D scanning, should know: From the scanning results, we can see that the advantages of the two scanners are obvious, EinScan-SE makes it easy to scan small objects with its automatic turntable, and when it comes to scanning large objects, Einstar is a better choice. This allows you to adjust the exposure and scanning distance sliders to get the best results. If you’re scanning a dark object, you need to put high exposure (stronger light) so that the scanner can “see” it better. Scanning These numbers correspond to the distance between each point in your point cloud (a.k.a. dot cloud). The closer the distance between each point, the higher the resolution.

We used the hole-filling tool to fix a few areas that were hard to reach with the scanner. You can manually fill each hole and use different parameters for each hole, or use the auto feature. We used the automatic hole-filling tool and it worked nicely- even on a pretty big area (see the video below). While it was our first time reviewing a product from the FreeScan series, the Einstar is our fifth review from the EinScan line. We tested the EinScan-Pro (2016), the EinScan-SP (2017), the EinScan Pro 2X Plus (2019), and the hybrid laser and structured light EinScan HX (2020). If your model compute capability is lower than 4.3 you will not be able to run it, and you will need a hardware upgrade, if the value is bigger than 4.3 you are able to use the scanner with that graphic card.Thank you Shinning 3D! You’ve turned me into an Evangelist on this product and I love you guys for making it! Since face 3D scanning is one of Einstar’s key use cases, we just had to try it out. We scanned a friend, Julien, in portrait mode and got an amazing result in 0.5mm resolution. It’s also amazing that you can edit your mesh directly within EXStar. On most other low-cost 3D scanners, you’d have to install and use a second software that may or may not be from the manufacturer. This means additional export steps, getting to know another software and UX if it’s not from the same editor, etc. In short, a hassle.

The Einstar is not a budget or entry scanner, yet it is not a professional grade scanner, if it were a camera 📸 it would be called “Prosumer” which is technology that is higher than the usual consumer entry option with some features that are available on professional units (think Canon 90D or Canon R6 Mark II). Cameras in this range from Nikon, Canon, and Sony are called Prosumer. This scanner is a Prosumer Scanner, and it is the first in that range and right now it is in a league of its own. Shining 3D didn’t just make a scanner to compete with the competition, they made a whole new level of scanner! EXStar prompts you to hold the scanner at different distances and angles from the plate. If you are new to 3D scanner calibration processes, you might need to get the hang of some of the angles. Make sure you follow the same movement shown on the software interface. The built-in detail enhancement technology optimizes the point cloud for complete data acquisition, better guides your scanning and improve the data quality. All of these tools are intuitive to use, you get the hang of them in a single afternoon or less. Aligning the point clouds The Einstar comes in, aside from the cardboard box, a very practical carrying case. It safely stores the scanner, its cables, the calibration case, and markers. It’s the first time we see so much effort put into affordable 3D scanner accessories. Even some more expensive scanners don’t have such a nice protective case. EINSTAR, equipped with 3 infrared VCSEL projectors, 2 stereo depth cameras, and 1 RGB color camera, can easily capture stable and clear details at fast pace providing high-quality data output with color texture. It is the perfect tool for getting started with 3D scanning or experiencing 3D modeling easily and efficiently.

EXStar includes a suite of useful tools, including a super handy plane clipping tool. This type of feature is usually only available with professional-grade software. This tool allows you to easily remove 3D data of the support on which the part rests (your desk or a turntable for example). Resolution is defining the point distance which the scanner is capturing. The smaller the distance, the higher the resolution, and more density points of the data for better detail. If you select low resolution, the point distance is bigger, less points generated. We suggest to set low resolution when scan large size object for better scanning experience. We scanned this lion before with laser 3D scanners that didn’t capture colors, so we wanted to try with the Einstar and see how good a color scan would look compared to the real statue. If you choose portrait mode, the available resolution goes from 0.2mm to 3mm. And if you’re in object mode, resolution options vary depending on the size you selected:In conclusion, EinScan-SE and Einstar are complementary scanners that work well together to meet all your scanning needs. Whether you need to scan small objects or large ones, these scanners will give you the highest quality data. Finally, copy theactivation filetothecomputer without internet access and import it to the EXStar software, then offline activation is done! The software– called EXStar– mostly worked great but lagged a little bit sometimes despite these monster specifications. It is really important that you have a powerful computer to run the software smoothly. Getting started Installation Note: Our colleague Elliot is color blind, so the red and green indications were illegible to him. It would be nice to see a color-blind mode added to the software; it’s estimated that around 300M people in the world have some form of color blindness.
