Steriliser - Not equipment but is essential part to keep all equipment clean and sterilised when used Malt: Typically, many porter recipes will be made of of an English or US base malt such as Maris otter or pale malt and then a variety of dark roasted malts and crystal malt. Smoked porters, of course, must include a smoked element which is typically a portion of smoked malt.

i think the biggest problem with this beer is you cant drink it after having other beers. doing this exposes its weaknesses to the hilt. goes down ok if its drunk in isolation, or at the start of the night. An aromatic, strong, dark chocolate cream stout with a satisfying bittersweet aftertaste. St Peters Beer Kit Range Brewing instructions English porter recipes tend to include a percentage brown malt and some include roasted grains like roasted barley, sparingly. Brown, Robust, Baltic, English, American and Smoked Can all be used to describe variations of porter. This means that there is some room for experimentation. Spices: Similarly, spices work well against the rich flavour of dark malts. Vanilla, cinnamon, cloves and what I would consider to be sweet spices are quite common. I have also tried a porter with peppercorns that was quite unique. Nuts also work well in porter on some occasions.Stout has roasted barley and porter doesn’t. However, my porter recipe included roasted barley so it doesn’t follow this rule. Porter As A Style The recipe does not say what the actual bittering hops are. It says the first two additions should to have 10 HBUs (same thing as AAU) and be split evenly at 45 minutes and 30 minutes. I left it at Hallertau. I'm not sure what the deal is with the taste - I'm not recognising any honey what-so-ever. I get a watery roasted caffeine flavour and spicy bitterness.

As far as we know the White House Honey Brown Ale is the first alcohol brewed or distilled on the White House grounds. George Washington brewed beer and distilled whiskey at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson made wine but there's no evidence that any beer has been brewed in the White House. (Although we do know there was some drinking during prohibition…) The use of a LME will undoubtedly produce a beer of pure quality, depth, body and flavour than options 1 or 2 above. The ABV will be determined by the use of a hydrometer When returning goods we recommend you use a signed for delivery service, and request that you obtain proof of postage. The smell is a hard one to put my finger on. It's sweet, and I'd almost say some sort some light fruits accompany the hops.Fruit: I am fond of fruit porters but the fruit you use needs to be considered carefully. Dark, rich stone-fruits such as plums work really well as do cherries. Raspberries can work also but you need to be careful the beer isn’t too tart. This guide on adding fruit to your homebrew will help. Here is a simple starter kit Starter Kit With Barrel to allow you to make the beer if you have not already got brewing equipment

Add 2 gallons chilled sterile water into the primary fermenter and add the hot wort into it. Top with more water to total 5 gallons. There is no need to strain.Maid Marian 4.3%– Our light golden pale ale is. This sharp and crisp ale is perfect for anyone and any occasion. aroma is on the sweetish side. honey is hardly detectable in the aroma, but it does have a nice maltiness about it. nothing outstanding about it though. Inspired by home brewers from across the country, last year President Obama bought a home brewing kit for the kitchen. After the few first drafts we landed on some great recipes that came from a local brew shop. We received some tips from a couple of home brewers who work in the White House who helped us amend it and make it our own. To be honest, we were surprised that the beer turned out so well since none of us had brewed beer before.

Ed. Note: There's been a lot of buzz online recently about the recipe for the White House Honey Ale and White House Honey Porter, including a popular petition on We the People, the White House's online petition platform. Boil for an hour. Add half of the bittering hops at the 15 minute mark, the other half at 30 minute mark, then the aroma hops at the 60 minute mark. All sizes and measurements are approximate but we do try to make sure that they are as accurate as possible. Hops: Hops can vary quite widely in a porter depending on the style being brewed. English versions will predominantly use English hops, American versions can emphasise hops more using really aromatic hops and even dry-hopping although this isn’t always the case. Since our first batch of White House Honey Brown Ale, we've added the Honey Porter and have gone even further to add a Honey Blonde this past summer. Like many home brewers who add secret ingredients to make their beer unique, all of our brews have honey that we tapped from the first ever bee-hive on the South Lawn. The honey gives the beer a rich aroma and a nice finish but it doesn't sweeten it.Wood: Using oak chunks soaked in alcohol works well in higher ABV beers that are really rich. You need a stronger porter otherwise the wood will completely overwhelm everything else. Porter Recipe The JSESSIONID cookie is used by New Relic to store a session identifier so that New Relic can monitor session counts for an application. If you were to use 1kg (2x500gs) of dry malt extract (DME) – the colour appropriate to the type of beer (see colour guide below), you will produce a beer slightly higher in ABV yet at the same time retaining its body.
