About this deal

This Sonic was far simpler in appearance than the previous screwdriver with a simple steel body made from melted spoons, and a crystal on the tip that glowed amber while in use, taken from a Stenza transport chamber. The new, electronic 7.4″ Thirteenth Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Fan Collectible is an authentic replica of the Doctor’s device. It features two buttons that when pressed activate glowing patterns of red and orange interior lights, two different authentic Thirteenth Doctor Sonic Screwdriver sounds, and a beautiful rotating crystal that glows. From time to time, the sonic screwdriver needed to be recharged. ( PROSE: The Monsters Inside, COMIC: Bizarre Zero) It was self-repairing and could send out a homing signal to any parts that had been separated. ( TV: A Christmas Carol) One account held that a sonic screwdriver was powered by a type of crystal that was similar to the Metebelis crystals. ( COMIC: The Forgotten) Individual sonic screwdrivers [ ] The Doctor's screwdriver [ ] Main article: The Doctor's sonic screwdriver But it doesn’t end there! Despite being a small device with no visible interface, the Sonic has a zillion functions, operated by a psychic interface. Users merely need to point and think, and the Sonic will whir into action. Some of its uses include:

And just as John Hurt makes the perfect actor for this grizzled war veteran, so too does the Sonic Screwdriver need a design to fit the part. Identified by the Daleks as a " sonic probe", ( TV: Doomsday) the sonic screwdriver was considered to be very advanced Gallifreyan technology, ( PROSE: Heart of TARDIS) although somebody could make one by using resources found on 21st century Earth with help from Stenza technology. ( TV: The Woman Who Fell to Earth) During the Dalek-Movellan War, Davros dismissed the sonic screwdriver as a "simple" tool. ( AUDIO: The Triumph of Davros) Vastra had a sonic screwdriver that was a gift from the Doctor. She used it to shatter the glass of the Crystal Palace. It had a red tip, and was similar in design to that used by the Doctor's eleventh incarnation. ( COMIC: The Crystal Throne)The very first thing the Doctor used this incredible tool for was literally unscrewing some screws – although it soon turned out to have far greater capabilities, thanks to the powerful, miniaturised technology it contained. the second doctor and his first sonic screwdriver. Prop designer Arwel Wyn Jones talked through the new sonic; “It’s a privilege to have been asked to redesign the iconic sonic screwdriver for the Thirteenth Doctor and a new generation of audiences. I can’t wait for people to see how the Doctor acquires it!” the official images we have been sent by BBC Studios clearly show the CO and seven20 sonics are different in many different ways The new version is really great. Amazing how frosted panels, a brighter orange light, a dark wash and dark screws can change the toy Reply Once, the Doctor even popped a mirror on there to hypnotise an angry beast. Another attachment was handy for reversing the polarity of the neutron flow, which was this Doctor’s go-to plan for dealing with all sorts of problems

I wonder if CO can sell their toys overseas? Probably, cause FPI doesn’t say anything about being UK only. If not, and both Seven20 and CO are restricted to their own countries, that’s going to be a problem for me and anyone else outside of the UK or US. Having seen a pic on the reddit thread of this release. It’s exactly the same product as the UK version. This image has just had a bit of photoshopitis. The Sonic Screwdriver is the ever present accessory of the legendary Time Lord, and since the regeneration at the end of 2017, Doctor Who fans across the globe have been awaiting the announcement of a replica collectible Sonic Screwdriver by Character Options. next week it seems after SDCC, USA only but we will try to find out beat people to ship to UK but it wont be cheap It’s just a shame that it’s going to cost more for UK based fans, as we’ll only be able to get it either second hand or imported.we seem to know very little about the Character one, the seven20’s end rotates we are unclear if that happens on the Character sonic The Doctor, throughout many of their lives, possessed a sonic screwdriver. They originally used a basic model in their first ( PROSE: Venusian Lullaby) and second incarnations, ( TV: Fury from the Deep) before upgrading in their third. ( TV: The Sea Devils) However, according to one account, the First Doctor was unfamiliar with the sonic screwdriver when he met the Twelfth Doctor. ( TV: Twice Upon a Time) Similarly the accounts depicting the Doctor's life as the Timeless Child prior to their first incarnation showed at least one of them as being unfamiliar with the sonic screwdriver and dismissive of it. ( TV: Fugitive of the Judoon) The Doctor continued to use the model introduced during his third incarnation until it was destroyed in their fifth by a Terileptil leader. ( TV: The Visitation) It wasn't until they were in their seventh incarnation before they began to use a screwdriver again, taking on various different models throughout the years. ( TV: Doctor Who, Rose, The Eleventh Hour, Hell Bent, The Woman Who Fell to Earth) After crash-landing in Sheffield with no TARDIS, a body that was still cooking, and two alien mysteries to solve, the Doctor realised she was missing something – her sonic screwdriver. As there was no TARDIS around to fire out a replacement, she had to take matters into her own hands. the thirteenth doctor forges her own sonic screwdriver using sheffield steel and an alien crystal in the woman who fell to earth The Doctor didn’t replace the sonic for ages – the next time we saw one was when the Seventh Doctor used a similar model to seal a casket containing the Master’s remains.

Is it just me or does this Seven20 one look more like a prototype picture than COs, which looks more like a proper photo? I still can’t see the logic in them being different, biggest difference I can see is that the screw-holes are on different sides. Measuring 7.4″ long, this is an authentic full-size replica of the 13th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver. It even has lights and sounds. Press the buttons to play authentic sound effects, trigger glowing patterns of red and orange lights, or to activate the beautiful glowing rotating crystal. Despite his short tenure, the 7th Doctor did have one of the sleekest Sonic Screwdriver designs among his iterations. The 8th Doctor called this the “Mark 5” prior to losing it, and its stay with the 7th Doctor marked the perfect transition between the classic and newer models prior to the War Doctor’s arrival. I wonder if the reason these and the se7en20 sonics haven’t got ‘made in Sheffield’ stamp on the handle is because it would be illegal as these are of course made in China? Trading standards would be all over them! Replyyes seven20 are USA based CO UK, two completely different companies now each making their own products The sonic screwdriver, also called a sonic probe or simply "the sonic", was a highly versatile tool used by many people throughout the universe, the most prominent of them being the Doctor. Doctor Who will air the final outing of Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor with its third 2022 Special in October 2022. After that, Russell T. Davies will wield the Sonic Screwdriver and ride the TARDIS as the Fourteenth Doctor in the upcoming 14th Season.

It shows there are loads of screw holes on the other side of this version of the sonic as well. I guess Seven20 just chose not to show them in the promo shots unlike CO. The Friend…. No…. they are not the same product! VERY DIDFERENT when you see them in person. Also… notice the 2 buttons on this one?? Hmm? Character Options Only has the 1 button. Paint is different. And they’re are other things noticeable in person. I don’t think they hide the screw holes on purpose since it looks like the Doctor just makes this on the fly with what she has laying around. I don’t know. They look interesting. Still debating if I’m going to buy one today! Romana II constructed her own sonic screwdriver, which was so impressive that the Doctor attempted to substitute his own with hers, but she noticed the switch. ( TV: The Horns of Nimon) Her version also included a silencer. ( AUDIO: Luna Romana) She later gave it to the Doctor. ( PROSE: Lungbarrow) Nonetheless, during the final term of her presidency, her third incarnation used a sonic screwdriver. ( AUDIO: Intervention Earth) In this animated revivial, the sonic screwdriver was redesigned to look more like the version we see in future Second Doctor stories – a thin rod with a little light on the end. Since then, the sonic screwdriver has been a steadfast companion to almost all the Doctors, proving its worth time and time again! What are its shortcomings? With the trend of Sonic Screwdrivers matching the personalities of their holders, it’s perhaps the one belonging to the 11th Doctor that tops the list. Its larger frame, extendable “claws,” and green emitter match the aesthetic of his newly-designed TARDIS. Not only that, its aesthetic screamed the sense of style Matt Smith brings to the table during his tenure as the 11th Doctor.

While not necessarily a “new” Sonic Screwdriver, fans would immediately realize that the 12th Doctor gave River Song the same model as the Sonic Screwdriver of his tenth incarnation. However, what makes River Song’s Screwdriver extra special is the sentimental value attached to it. After all, it’s the first gift the Doctor actually gave River, who was technically his wife.
